Community Support for Eric

For nearly 200 years, people in the small town of Millersburg, PA have been sharing stories of the Millersburg Ferry, believed to be the last wooden double stern-wheel paddle boat in operation in the United States.

With a population of 2,600 residents, four local area businesses employ most the population.  Alvold-Polk Tool, manufacturers the highest-quality standard and special reamers in the industry;  Thermo Scientific™ is dedicated to improving the human condition through systems, consumables, and services for researchers;  Brubaker Tools , has made quality cutting tools since 1881, and MI Doors & Windows makes the best replacement and construction windows. Millersburg residents are some of the hardest working people you will ever meet, and have been producing quality products for generations.

The lively stories and dedicated hard working area residents bind the town and are part of its legacy.

Now, a new kind of story is being told in Millersburg. It’s the story of how the community reacted when 16-year old Eric Erdman was diagnosed with brain cancer. Friends, family, teachers, and strangers were there for Eric after his diagnosis and continue to support him today. From being by his side during his surgeries to placing large banners of support throughout his school to creating and using the hashtag #noonefightsalone to raising money for his treatment, the community has made Eric feel he is not alone in confronting cancer.

These are some of the stories about how the community stepped in so Eric didn’t have to confront cancer alone.

While Eric was, in Texas receiving radiation, football players, fans, and rivals all wore grey t-shirts that said, “No one fights alone!” to a high school football game to show their solidarity, with grey symbolizing the grey matter in the human brain. The local news station spurred further support by running a story about the event and letting people know ways to support Eric

Local area business MI Doors & Windows truly went above and beyond to support Eric. MI Doors & Windows organized its first annual MI Foundation Golf Outing with all proceeds going to Eric Erdman/T.E.K. Foundation CC, Inc. An outstanding turnout resulted in $10,000 in donations.

Who really is MI Doors & Windows?

Transforming the world, one child at a time.

“Many of us ask what can I, as one person, do, but history shows us that everything good and bad starts because somebody does something or does not do something.”

These acts of kindness, no matter how small, made a difference to Eric and helped him find his voice. It’s Eric’s dream that other kids who experience difficult situations receive the same kindness he received at one of the most vulnerable times of his life.

A special thank you to:

Change Begins with You!

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”

Many people impact a child’s life. All of the interactions and relationships children have with others have a big impact on their development and wellbeing.  Communities have the power to be a positive part of children’s lives and to support them when they are suffering. This sort of influence will allow children to live healthy and productive lives, and be able to create their own positive change in the world.

Eric doesn’t want our community’s goodwill to stop with him. He is calling on you—area residents and local businesses—to reach out to your neighbors with open your hearts. He wants you to let the children in the community know you are there for them, take the time to listen to a child, and help them find their voice.

The T.E.K. Foundation CC, Inc. intends to encourage, inspire and build a community that meets all of our children’s needs and helps them find their voice. We invite you to join the movement “Give a Child a Voice” today to create positive change in children’s lives!
